What a fabulous week!

Posted 12/2/2016

What a fabulous week we have had!

On Monday, we all wore red to raise awareness of the British Heart Foundation.

On Tuesday the children in both classes learned about Lent and the origin and meaning of Shrove Tuesday. The learning linked to our Science Week theme of 'materials' and the children investigated reversible and irreversible changes by making pancakes - and eating them of course!

On Friday, we were visited by British Olympic athlete Ben Pipes who can to talk to us about his career and teach us some volleyball skills - it was a very exciting and inspirational experience!

Chinese New Year

Posted 4/2/2016

Children in both Class 1 and Class 2 having been learning about Chinese New Year today.

Pupils really enjoyed making Chinese dragons, including a full size dragon which Class 1 pupils paraded around the building.

The best part of the day was trying Chinese food: noodles, sweet and sour, egg fried rice ... it was delicious and lots of us tried something we'd never eaten before!

Handa's Surprise

Posted 20/1/2016

Class 1 have been reading 'Handa's Surprise' and tasting the different fruits in the story. Some were sweet, some were sour and everyone had different favourites. The children used heir data handling skills to show this information in different ways - some pupils even used ICT to create bar graphs. Why not come and have a look? Which do you think was the most popular fruit?

Listen to the story of 'Handa's Surprise' here: Handa's Surprise

Go to the Classes  page to listen to other stories which the children have been reading.

Weekly Round-Up

Posted 15/1/2016

This week we have welcomed new friends to school, welcomed a new pupil into our new nursery provision, seen further improvements in our attendance and seen a growing number of children reading AT LEAST three times a week to a grown-up.

I am also very proud to have had the privilege of talking to a large number of pupils about their own pride in improving their  mental maths scores. Our children are increasingly talking about their learning in terms of enjoyment and progress which demonstrates a really positive attitude.

Lots of Visitors!

Posted 13/1/2016

Today we were visited by our School Improvement Adviser, Davinia Pearson, who joined me in a learning walk and book scrutiny. It was with great pride and pleasure that, joined by our Chair of Governors Sue Pagliaro, I led a tour around our engaging learning environment and shared the wonderful work of our pupils. The children also really enjoyed talking about what they were doing.

Later in the afternoon Reverend Anna Burr came to Drax to deliver our Wednesday assembly.

It is truly wonderful to be welcoming so many more people into our school community.

What a super day!
